Elizabeth Peters is the pen name of Barbara Mertz and is the writer of the successful Amelia Peabody series of novels. Born and brought up in Illinois, she earned her Ph.D. in Egyptology from the University of Chicago. She lived in a historic farmhouse in Frederick, western Maryland until her death.
At this festive time of year, a number of the broadsheets are publishing their favourite books of the year. It is a nice way to look back on books that you may have read, been amazed by, thrilled by, terrified by and truly loved.
