Currently Watching... Ludwig

A few people have suggested this as a good watch. It is being shown on the BBC, but all episodes are available on the iplayer. David Mitchell plays John 'Ludwig' Taylor, a man struggling with modern life who retreats into creating and solving all sorts of cryptic puzzles. When John's detective identical twin brother, James, disappears whilst solving a case. John is persuaded by James' wife to assume the identity of James, go undercover to find his notebook. But then a murder case comes in and people are relying on James (aka John) to solve the mystery. The programme is very sweet and very funny and had us laughing out loud.

Currently Reading ....October October by Katya Balen

I received this as part of my year of books present from my friends and with it being October, decided it was the perfect time to read it. Very much enjoying it so far, although I have had to read the end to check if there is any animal danger. There isn't.

Currently sipping.......a cooling cup of coffee and water from my Pumpkin Season cup with a straw. You had better believe I am embracing the heck out of this season. UPDATE....Chris has just made a cup of tea. Love this man.

Currently on my To Be Read shelf...are a lot of books.

And that is all I will say on the matter......okay 26 books. But I am currently on a book buying ban at the moment. Negotiations have started for just one more Christmas book, but at the moment it is deadlock.

Currently looking forward to......having my hair done.

It is this afternoon and I cannot wait as it currently looks like mice might be nesting in my hair.

Currently anticipating.....A piece of caramel shortbread

Our village shop sells the most delicious caramel shortbread. It is so delicious that of the 24 pieces coming into the shop, 18 are already reserved and we have got our name on the list. I'll wander down in a moment when this post is published.

On with the review! Last year I read the wonderful Pumpkin Spice Cafe which hinted that a sequel may be on its way. I had a sneaking suspicion that the author might be a Gilmore Girls fan, and that Dream Harbour where the novels are set is actually Stars Hollow. Fast forward a few months and here we are again with the Cinnamon Bun Book Store.

First of all can we just talk about a world where a bookshop serves free Cinnamon Buns on a Sunday. I do hope that somewhere this is happening.

Bookshop Manager Hazel is shortly turning 30 and feels that life has passed her by. She has never had the mad 20's where caution is thrown to the wind and adventures are had and she is feeling a little down about this. But then a code turns up in one of the books she is selling and it seems to be sending her a message. After telling her good friend Noah, who just happens to be a hunky fisherman, they form a pact to see out her 20's following the experiences set down by the codes found in the books.

The tagline on the book announces 'all it takes is a little sugar and spice' and good heavens there are both in plenty. The spicy bits being very racy dear reader. But this is a lovely novel about a woman learning to live, and not be so serious all the time. Frankly it is nice to be reminded of this. Hazel and Noah are great characters who help each other to take a chance. Both are supported by a cast of good friends, book group members and characters from the Pumpkin Spice Cafe.

For me, this was a 5 star read. It is warmth and sugar and cosiness wrapped up in a book. I want to visit Dream Harbour and go to the bookshop, and the bakery and meet these people. This is a measure of a good read. I've also asked for paper copies of both books in the series so far, so I can have them on my bookshelves and read them again.

Even better the next book in the series, The Christmas Tree Farm, has just been published. I need to get this book buying ban lifted sharpish.

I very much enjoyed this book and it is perfect for Autumn. In conclusion, a wonderful book to curl up with in Autumn.
